I have just screwed with this for 6hrs and cannot get it to work. It seems fairly easy...but....UGGGGH!! I feel stupid I cannot get this to work. I just want my ATV to play divx and .avi. I picked up a refurb this week for $229. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I've never tried, but where are you running into trouble? _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

I can't find any info as to how the drive should be formatted so I format it as HFS journaled. I get everything loaded onto the drive and Terminal outputs the correct info. But the ATV won't boot it up. I have read a few tidbits that maybe the 2gb thumb drive is the culprit. People recommend a 1gb or 512mb. We'll see if a new drive makes the difference. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

| Do you have a valid boot.efi in the Patchstick root? I don't think the 2GB drive should be an issue. |

I'm not sure how I would verify this. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

It would be in root, but I have a feeling that you didn't copy it over. I'm not sure if it would be kosher to post a direct link to the file here, so check this out. You need to follow the second option. If you're still having trouble with the steps, look here.

I have scoured these exact links numerous times. I fully understand this being a "touchy/potentially illegal" subject. I fully appreciate your help in this though. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

I haven't picked up a smaller USB thumb drive yet. I've read at least 4 post of this (USB drive size) being the problem. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

You know, come to think of it, that might be true. It's been a while since I've hacked around with my mine. But I did a little searching around and found a possible fix.
You need to open the createPatchstick script.
Find:
gpt add -b $START -s $SIZE -i 1 -t "5265636F-7665-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC" $THEDISK
Replace with:
gpt add -b $START -s $SIZE -i 1 -t "5265636F-7665-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC" `basename $THEDISK`
Have you seen or tried that? |

I've seen this but I don't know how to find/open this script. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

It's right in the home directory of the Patchstick folder that you downloaded.
I would use TextWrangler to modify it. Just right click the file, open with TextWrangler, make the change, and save it.
You can also go to Search > Find if you have trouble finding the code. Then copy the code into both fields and click replace.
