Gigabit on mac mini slow

First problem there is no option for Gigabit full duplex for the network card. Second I only get max 12.5mb with Gigabit. Transfer to a fast server with Gigabit and raid0. That same server was able to receive at 45mb a sec from a cheap sempron pc with sata drive.
I just noticed the speed drops to 3.4mb most of the time.

First port of call must be to check your cable.

Gigabit really benefits from Cat6, but will run ok over Cat5e.

Secondly, you can set the speed, but you have to go to preferneces/network/ethernet and select configure manually.

This white paper from Cisco and Intel explains why cat6 is better for gigabit.

Even with CAT6, and all the network card set to Jumbo Frames, and full duplex 1000mbit. My switch supports Jumbo frames. All cat6 cables. I mentioned I test with another Computer and got 45mb/sec. This mac mini should be able to give more then 7mb it gives now.

You're right, you should be doing better. I get 38-40MB/s with my mini. I would check/replace the cable.

Have you tried the cable you are using for your PC in the MAC?
I'd also leave it in the same port so you can be sure that the switch/cable part of your set up has been discounted.

I leave mine on auto and get around 40Mb/sec. 10.4.10 and no special network settings at all.

Does Network Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) report the interface as running at 1Gb?
